On March 24th, at the shipping site of a Chinese high-voltage switchgear manufacturer, the dull sound of rubber tires rubbing against cement echoed as the forklift operator carefully loaded the final cabinet onto the truck. Following the command "dispatch," heavy trucks laden with 280 units of 17.5kV/60Hz high-voltage switchgear for Saudi Arabia's Qassim 1 and Taiba 1 gas power projects slowly departed the factory premises one after another.
The Qassim 1 and Taiba 1 gas power projects, contracted under EPC arrangement by Shandong Electric Power Construction Corporation No.3, each plan to construct 1,800 MW gas turbine generator units. These units rank among the world's largest and most technologically advanced of their type, with full completion and commissioning scheduled for 2027. Upon completion, these projects will significantly enhance Saudi Arabia's power grid supply capability, effectively meeting the country's growing energy demands.
As a key equipment supplier, the Chinese high-voltage switchgear manufacturer undertook the critical task of supplying high-voltage switchgear equipment, rigorously ensuring both product quality and delivery schedules to demonstrate China's manufacturing excellence and set a benchmark for Chinese enterprises' "going global" strategy. To meet project requirements, the manufacturer promptly organized relevant departments to develop design solutions meeting technical specifications. Following contract signing, experienced engineers were assigned to interface with stakeholders despite time zone differences, repeatedly communicating with owners, EPC contractors, design institutes, and supervisory units to finalize details.
Over 1,000 documents were uploaded to the system alone, demonstrating meticulous attention to detail to fully satisfy the owner's high standards. Throughout the production process, each procedure strictly followed technical specifications and process requirements, with workers patiently completing complex operations. Particularly, the wiring staff endured significant pressure, with their workload per unit being three times that of standard cabinets. Through persistent efforts across all departments, production was completed on schedule, successfully passed supervisory acceptance, and delivered high-quality products that earned positive client feedback.
Subsequently, the enclosed busbars and low-voltage switchgear for these projects will also be produced and shipped by the Chinese high-voltage switchgear manufacturer. Actively responding to national initiatives and firmly advancing its "going global" strategy, the manufacturer is actively participating in the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative. The successful delivery of these two major Saudi gas power projects represents another milestone in the manufacturer's overseas market expansion and the advancement of its global business strategy.
